redstone press is a new label from the highlands of scotland born out of long nights on homegrown soundsystems pushing the uk scene, with a unique northern edge that comes from the freedom and isolation felt in that part of the world. red001 compromises of three eclectic bass-driven cuts from delphic producer pseudopolis. the a side pulls no punches, pointing you front left with arpeggiated synths on at last and artillery like percussion on tracer. we can all groove is a grittier but more subtle workout on the reverse.

let your brain slowly melt to the delightful sounds of dima disk. having first heard their music via the palace x bronze skate video a year or so ago, we did a bit of digging and it turned out to be by a duo called dima disk, one half of whom was an old glasgow pal called ragnar and robert nikolajev from tallinn s legendary club lekker. you may have heard their recent ripper on porridge bullet. having been fans of the shit coming out of estonia for a good few years and also having a thing for releasing music from our glasgow connections we felt that this needed to come out as a rad 12-.

the underdogg is the title of dj tre’s debut ep for hyperdub. he had two brilliant tracks featured on our dj rashad tribute compilation next life, but compared to other longterm members of the teklife footwork crew, he hasn’t released much, so we’re very happy to bring him out to play again here. tre has been about since the early days, born and raised on the south side of chicago. encouraged by the late dj rashad and his partner dj spinn, he has been making tracks since 1999, over a decade before footwork’s ascent to global popularity. on this ep his sound, for the most part is rooted in the speedy 4/4 of juke. it features a sparse and minimalist take on footwork but he’s got a knack of adding in tight little switches and details that keep the tracks moving as essential dance floor weapons.

younger rebinds is a new project and imaginary band by the inimitable and unstoppable benny rodrigues. maybe best-known for his rod moniker and releases on klockworks, rodrigues embodies and keeps the candour, spirit and curiosity that made techno music stand out in its start-up years - and that s exactly what we have here. the -retro 7 ep- makes the most of the classic 707 drum machine, gnarly synths, ambient soundscapes, pianos and organs. done in a way that is as much new wave, as it is electronic disco. spread out over a double-pack with eight tracks (8!, get it?), the younger rebinds hit the sweet spot between vintage dj hell aesthetics, sterac electronics and trevor jackson s metal dance dogma, if its choir would be muted. loud pressing and hypnotic artwork included. please don t look at it for more than 5 minutes.

following on from his intimate entry into the dj-kicks mix series, lone is putting out a vinyl only ep of all the unreleased tracks from it. the horizontal mix tapped into all of lones influences, from hip-hop to house, idm to techno. it also showcased some producers signed to his own magic wire label, and of course the back bone was built from some of the nottingham mans freshest new productions. they come after celebrated releases on werk discs, r&s and dekmantel, and include dance floor aligned eps and more rounded full lengths designed for close listening. here he sits in between the two across three thrilling cuts. opener ‘saturday night is a breezy bit of deep house with crisp boom-baps and swirling pads that lend it a dreamy, ethereal feel. spoken word snippets are stitched into the groove and the whole thing is as frictionless and feel good as house comes. next up, ‘arc is a little more direct, with scattered snares flapping over dry wooden kicks. its a punchy bit of house latest dj-kicks mix star kerri chandler would be proud, and comes overlaid with spring time flutes and luscious pads as a classically inclined bassline powers things along. last but not least is ‘alpha wheel 4 (ambient mix), a kaleidoscopic passage of suspensory sound scuffed up glassy surfaces trapping you in rays of refracted light from start to finish. all three tracks exhibit lones authentic, lived in and lo-fi aesthetic, and as a result slip perfectly into his ever more essential discography.

no matter where the winds may blow, what storms may come or what pirates will do, the transatlantyk ship is still sailing. navigated for the last three years by zambon out of berlin, ultimately avoiding the shallow waters of the generic and constantly patrolling the seas in search of exciting sounds. after all that sailing the label just had to replenish its ranks with some fresh faces - those still capable of voyaging into the unknown. joining the crew is a young gun tamten, who by day serves as a vinyl pusher in warsaw s finest side one record store. what he does by night is not the matter of this short text, but we are sure he does a lot of it. hence his love for all things distant - from subaquatic pads and floating riffs, to new-age-y siren voices, otherworldly effects and percussion drenched in reverb. there is a lot of similarly distant, sun-bleached material on this five tracker, full of a druggy and hippy balearic feel. beautiful ambient jam przebudzenie is the stand out track, but znaki czasu is equally as good with its simple, yet memorable melody, reminding of dawns and sunsets on some god forsaken beach. sultry deepness of nieznajoma is followed by enchanting digital exotica of wyrocznia and wavey trip-hop cut po burzy . overall its one of the strongest eps that transatlantyk managed to co-opt into its growing catalogue. definitely one for the dreamers.

since jim coles took on the mantle of om unit, the english producer has sought to challenge himself and his audience by going beyond the confines of genres and styles he has so far explored. in the process he has found success by striving for more feeling, for a more human and daring electronic music. this journey continues with ‘self’, coles’ third album as om unit and a true follow-up to his 2013 debut ‘threads’.

backyard boogie present their first release from the new label coming out of amsterdam. the release comes from the friendship of charlie & jody and what they created together coming from two different musical backgrounds, now with their music crossing paths. they used a variety of analog machines and field recordings to help create the music. the release also sees a collaboration with a local amsterdam artist ardjoen mahangoe, who helped create the artwork for the release.

following a live debut at berghain and standout shows at de school and institut fuer zukunft, daniel martin-mccormick returns as relaxer with the fourth installment in the projects eponymous ep series. jamie lee takes over the a-side harrowing screams are framed by strobing chords and a deadly groove. simultaneously euphoric, agonizing and cathartic, jamie lee was written as the climax of relaxers live set and is a prime example of the artists uniquely feral techno. drawing equally on punk confrontations and more haunting emotional explorations, jamie lee is a lacerating and visceral descent. on the b-side, unwind oozes from the speakers, a miasmic cut that builds on the white knuckle tension of jamie lee. a lone synth figure worms its way through pulsating 3d drones, shimmering dissonances and hiccuping drums, rocking out into a quasi catatonic infinity. finally regime change gently floats on the surface of a trash-filled sea, a fading, smog choked reverie.

spoiled drama reemerges exhibiting their darker side on -this is our mission-, their debut on the label embodiment of berlin s fleisch collective. the five track ep exhibits a unique range and dexterity, blurring lines between the realms of techno, ebm, acid and electro with a touch of maladjusted pop and post-punk. from the anxious beat and shimmering tones of -another death experience- to the ritualistic war drums and heavily distorted vocals of -kisses are out of fashion-, expect to feel dizzied, unnerved, yet beckoned to move. the eponymous track closes out the ep in an undeniably drexciyan fashion, low-pitched vocals emerging from watery depths in lush sweeping pads and dissonant melodies. a mission accomplished with style.

optimo trax presents a 4-track ep from germanys mathias schober, head honcho of berlin’s lossless label. as always we prefer to let our artists do the talking. heres what mathias has to say about this release - the idea behind all tracks on the ep was a simple setup of drums and one synth that would do a main sequence/sound, yet theres a lot of detail in all of them. in a certain way features a 808ish beat with a main sequence coming from a tiny monophon synth called atmegatron - 8bit love, it turned out being much more music than i thought it would be when i set everything up. but what rules are made for is the same setup but the sequence is a 101 and so are all the washed out fx synths. on is to break them i went a different route, i had the dub, delayed stabs synth first as i was messin with my moog and a space echo - which btw is used on every single track i release, if you haven’t noticed yet. so i was trying to build something around those stabs in order to fit the track to the others and so i ended up with another sequence coming from my moog. as there was still space on the record, i decided to add an ambient version of is to break them, i love the ambience on this track. i hope that my love for dub sounds is obvious enough on these tracks. happy i found such an excellent home for the ep!

fadi mohem &#769,,,s interest in electronic music began to rise when he first discovered drum and bass at an early age. since then he built up an extensive stylistic portfolio that has no genre boundaries. with the reckless ep, a first excerpt can now be tested out on the dance floor. „we are- and „reckless- on the a-side are uncompromising techno. both pieces are markedly aggressive and captivate with drifting synths and grooving drums. with „on the run- on the flip side, fadi mohem shows his more experimental side carrying broken drum patterns and atmospherical synths. the soundscapes of this thoroughly crafted record will absorb the listener into another dimension. the fact that his debut single simultaneously marks the first catalog number of the new label of berlin event series werk is actually consistent with the same sphere of emerging producers ready to step up and challenge the old guard. the record lays the foundation, both for werk and mohem himsel

argentinian dj / producer joaquin ruiz releases on norwegian label ploink this december, featuring four intense techno productions. ploink – a longstanding nightclub in bergen, norway – branched out with a record label in 2014, and now boasts a discography spanning prins thomas, +plattform, skatebÂrd, mental overdrive and label cofounder thomas urv. the labelís twentieth release comes from joaquin ruiz, a twenty-six-year-old from buenos aires, who has previously released on labels like ascetic limited and children of tomorrow whilst continuing to establish himself in the underground techno scene. ruiz opens with the title track ëgalacticí, where haunting melodies sit upon tight, rolling percussion and progress under complex polyrhythms whilst reverb soaked transitions seamlessly tie the track together to set a dark and bewildering tone for the release.

hot on the heels of the first two parts comes part three of hoshs stories from sa talaia series. the series takes tracks from his recently released album of the same name and releases them on his new fryhide label. first up are two collaborations with pig&dan. atlantis is not a fairy tale, a spine tingling tune with shifting melodies above rolling rubber beats. it s emotive and colourful and sets a nice mood to start off. the second brotherhood balearea is deep and elastic, with nice rubber beats and spraying synths bringing some real dynamism to the table. one of those tunes sven väth would drop at those special ibiza after parties. awakening of the birds a collaboration with karmon takes off right there and keeps you in that trance but gets more groovy with its inducing light footed drums, airy hi hats and skyward melodies all zoning you out. last of all, meeting mia lee is a beautifully melodic track that really moves you and strikes a resonant chord with your heart as the smooth and deep house vibes unfold. speaking of heart it features the heartbeat of hoshs unborn daughter. once again then, this is another richly rewarding ep from the one and only hosh.

after releasing their first two releases on one disc, the third release on amsterdam imprint working titles is a release on its own. label founders scott franka & kaap are behind the label s third release that features two epic tracks from the dutch pair and again finds them exploring new and exciting techno territory with their lively machine jams.
first track poise i is a deep and dubbed out techno track with deft synths slowly shapeshifting and bringing sombreness to the quickened groove. it’s late night music to zone you out with sparse but rich detailing to keep your mind occupied and it gets ever-busier over the course of thirteen enthralling minutes. then poise ii is a 16 minute masterpiece that is watery and dubby. it has undulating synth currents and increasingly textured snares. building to a peak then pulling back, with occasional freaky vocal sounds and sci-fi motifs, it is a truly cinematic piece that closes out an ambitious ep.

on the a-side things start of with “inityiat” which simply can be seen as a distorted form of “initiation”. starting of hypnotic, the track slowly progresses adding a plethora of subtle percussive elements. an ethnic and mysterious chanting complements the latter throughout the sonic voyageand caters for a promising start. part two of the a-side, “hata isler”, takes off where “inityiat” ended, but amplified in strength. subliminal voices manipulated harmoniously into the pads are mixed with sophisticated alternations of snares and hats. the result: a perfect continuation of the spirit the first track. side b commences with “insan”, a title that serves the track right. straight forward, upgrading the tempo of the previous tracks into a drive that’s impossible to resist. the maelstrom of drones and soundscapes on a layer of thundering sounds, induce a new stage of sonic hypnosis, until it gradually phases out into silence. “tzotzil” on the other hand is a skillfuly crafted tooltrack that’s build around a glooming and reverbing baseline.

time being, originally released in 2003, was the first full-length cyne lp, following a series of 12inch singles for beta bodega s imprint botanica del jibaro. this project mooncircle reissue marks the first time that this long out-of-print album has been released on vinyl. this deluxe edition includes a remaster of the original time being album, previously released singles, instrumentals, and two previously unreleased bonus tracks (plain english and the word), both recorded during the time being sessions.

mark and clive ives have been prime examples of the second life reissue culture can give previously under-appreciated artists, and emotional rescue have been one of the key labels to support the enigmatic brothers from london. as with previous reissues, -a la luna- presents the delicate, naive yet deep sound of woo across a long form album that invites you on a curious journey of discovery. with a melodic instinct bordering on exotica, and unique range of instruments in the sound palette and a dreamlike approach to processing, there s nothing out there that sounds quite like woo, and as ever it s a joy to delve into their sound world and leave more earthly familiarities behind.

left ear are re-introducing another ten lost tracks from nicholas georgieff and virgil work, st louis basement electronics duo workdub. the release spans material from 1989-95 and includes recordings from their sole lp and both cassette albums. workdubs music hardly fits into a vacuum and some might even say it’s otherworldly. tracks like reach for the stars and lunar module reflect dreams of space-age exploration, all the while their investigation into drum machines, synthesizers, samples matched with their organic live instrumentation work to create a unique atmospheric dubbed out sound.

as the head of berlin s eminently respected oye records, it s no surprise markus -delfonic- lindner would come correct with the edit heat for his first outing on razor-n-tape. the record starts out smooth and summery with the flow, a club-ready rework of an underground jamaican disco classic, followed by the furious afro-boogie stomp of -spf.- on the b-side an extended percussion jam builds ferociously and finally drops into a lovely lesser-known revamp of a killer disco anthem. music is love indeed!

following a string of remixes throughout 2016, and one of her busiest summers on the road, cassy is rounding off the year on a high. enter ‘kwench records’, a collaborative imprint she has created to represent honest and upfront house music. the remit is simple, on each release two or more artists will collaborate on ep original material, with a different artist joining the package on remix duty. they must not be afraid to experiment, nor do what comes naturally to them. and above all, trust in themselves and their instincts. this is something cassy has proudly learned to master over her dj career, and she now wishes to put out records in a creative space that encourages this approach. for the first release, cassy has called in one of her favourite house music producers, canada based demuir, to collaborate with her. demuir’s ‘derrick does disco’ ep which came out on great lakes audio in 2016 was a favorite in cassy’s sets throughout that year, even making it onto her mixmag presents cd ‘let’s talk about donna’, which accompanied her cover in june. there are three original cuts on the package, and as a special treat for the first release, cassy is holding back the incredible remix package until later this year.
